Today's ABU Elite Camp Profile focuses in on point guard prospect Desmond Soanes-Council of Lincoln Park Performing Arts High School located in Midland, PA. Desmond averaged 18 points per game this past season in leading Lincoln Park to an overall record of 26-7 which included a 10-0 mark in WPIAL 3A, Section 1 standings. The 5'5" player caught Battler Beat's eye on several occasions during the Alderson Broaddus Elite Camp. During camp update #1, we noted the following: "Desmond Council of Lincoln Park (PA)...small, but cat quick and knows how to adjust despite size." He didn't stop there. In camp update #2, we observed the following: "Desmond Council cat quick on defensive movement. He is bothering offensive players of all sizes. He moves quick laterally to the help position." Desmond played for the yellow team during the elite camp which was coached by AB Hall of Famer Josh Allen.
Desmond may be diminutive in height, but don't let that size fool any reader one bit. He displays an incredible quick release on his outside jumper. Soanes-Council can hit the 3-point shot from multiple spots on the floor. He is an excellent shooter from the corner area. Desmond may have a good scoring average, but he is definitely a pass-first point guard from either the outside area or when he probes the middle of the opposing team's defense. During the elite camp, he showed excellent defensive technique and awareness no matter if it was during team play or during the defensive skill set session.
