This week Alderson Broaddus men's basketball team learned that 6'4" wing player David Shriver will be signing on with the Battlers. He decided to play for ABU this week after campus visits the previous weeks at West Liberty, Fairmont State and Salem. Shriver was a 2018 West Virginia Class AA 1st-team all-state selection. He played his high school basketball at Philip Barbour High School and averaged 21.6 points per game and 6 rebounds per game this past season in leading his team to a 22-4 record. David helped lead the Colts to the WV Class AA state tournament semifinal round this past season. He was named to the all-tournament team for his efforts. Shriver scored 19 points for PBHS in the semi-final round against Fairmont Sr despite being guarded by West Virginia University recruit Taevon Horton. Shriver is known for his deadly three-point shooting. Those that follow West Virginia high school basketball consider him the best shooter in the state. David knocked down 190 shots from behind the arc for his career while shooting 42% from three-point territory. His 6'4" frame makes him very dangerous from any where on the court. This past spring David played in the WV vs. Pennsylvania All-Star game at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. Shriver finished with 25 points on the day including five 3-pointers and helped the WV team win the three-point shooting contest. He was named the Most Valuable Player for the WV squad. David's grandfather Jim Shriver is in the ABU Hall of Fame. Jim was a basketball player on two A-B squads that advanced to the NAIA National Basketball Tournament in Kansas City. The student section bleachers at Rex Pyles Arena are named after Jim Shriver.
